Period 1 and 2

We reviewed our vocabulary words; turned in our character "sketches" and worked on writing dialogue. For Social Studies, we took notes on a presentation on the rise and fall of the Spanish Empire (Chapter 3.1-3.3 in our books). We will complete both the character sketches and the notes tomorrow.

Period 3
We made appointments with 12 classmates for future partner activities; we carefully saved our clock buddy handout in our binders! We turned in our character sketches today, after sharing some with the class. We learned about writing dialogue today, and practiced some as a group before working as partners to create a variety of scenarios. We will finish those and share some with the class tomorrow.

Period 5-6
We shared our character sketches today and began work on creating a scene using dialogue along with snapshots and thoughtshots. We worked with our 2:00 clock buddies for this activity, which we will complete in class tomorrow.

For Social Studies, we took a quiz over 3.4 and evaluated the effectiveness of our note taking skills. Most of us felt they were pretty good! :) We worked in table groups to create story boards about the early colonization of North America...AKA Chapter 4.1 in our Social Studies books. We will continue that activity tomorrow. For home work tonight, we are writing five questions for our partner to answer about their book. The questions are at the application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation levels of Bloom's Taxonomy, so questions asking for summaries and lists are not allowed! The questions need to ask for comparisons (comparing characters in the book, or characters with others in different books) contrasts, analysis, hypothesis, judgement and recommendations. Be specific and detailed in your questions! These are due tomorrow (5th period). Bring them printed/written and ready to go!
