Block I
We finished our political party presentations; results announced tomorrow. If you still have unfinished portions of your presentations, please turn them in by tomorrow (Tuesday).

Period 3
We began studying our third set of Tom Sawyer vocabulary words; sentences due on Wednesday. We finished Tom Sawyer Chapter 10 and 11 - tomorrow we will discuss moral dilemmas.

Block II
We read Tom Sawyer Chapter 10 - were assigned 8 new Tom Sawyer vocab words (sentences due on Wednesday); watched a ppt on Chapter 10.5 in Social Studies; questions 1,4,5 on page 325 and You be the Historian and the Thinking Critically questions on page 326 --- due tomorrow!)

Block I
We took our vocab test; read Chapter 9-10 (through page 92) in Tom Sawyer and worked on our Political Party presentations; we will finish up on the Monday after break.

Period 3
We took our vocab test; read Chapter 9-10 (through page 92) in Tom Sawyer and turned in your character surveys/analysis.

Block II
Political parties were presented: Outstanding work! We debriefed; For Language Arts, we took the Tom Sawyer vocab test #2, then read Chapters 9 and 10 in Tom Sawyer;

Block I

We discussed superstitions and read Chapter 7 in Tom Sawyer. We looked for and documented instances of melodrama in Chapter 7. In Social Studies,homework was turned in (see yesterday's post for details if you were absent) and we continued working on creating our political parties.

Period 3
We discussed superstitions and read Chapter 7 in Tom Sawyer. Due today; the Comprehension Quiz for Chapter 6.

Block II

We documented instances of melodrama in Tom Sawyer; we read Chapter 8 in small groups; in Social Studies, we continued to work on our political parties.

Block I
We finished Chapter 6 in Tom Sawyer and were introduced to our next 8 vocab words - test this coming Friday!
In Social Studies, here is the assignment (due tomorrow!);

Define John Jay and Jay’s Treaty
Thomas Pinckney and Pinckney’s Treaty
Section 3 Questions 3 and 4 on page 314
Read Washington’s Farewell Address and answer Questions 1 and 2 on page 317
Read Section 4 and answer questions 1,2, 3 and 4 on page 318)

Period 3
We added our 8 new vocab. words - test this Friday. We read Chapter 6 outloud in our small groups - challenging to speak with Southern slang! For homework: complete the Chapter 6 take home quiz and the bubble web for charaters introduced up to this point in the book.

Block II
We read Chapter 7 in Tom Sawyer and were introduced to our 8 new vocabulary words.

Block I
Vocab test tomorrow - plus you will be turning in your golden lines for Chapter 1-5 in Tom Sawyer. For Social Studies, complete your Party Research and also finish the following assignment in your Social Studies book - Read Section 10.2 - pages 304 - 309. Answer questions 1,2, (only the Bank of the United States!) and 3 at the end of Section 2.

Period 3 -
Vocab test tomorrow - matching definitions with words and writing sentences for two words. Also, if you didn't finish the Comprehension quiz for Tom Sawyer Chapter 5, complete that to turn in tomorrow. Golden Lines 1 - 5 are due tomorrow as well.

Block II

Block I
We read Chapter 4 in Tom Sawyer and made connections about "showing off" - we analyzed the chapter for connections between Chapter 2 and Chapter 4 and discussed the ending as a class. We went over our 8 vocab words for this week: please find and highlight them in your vocab packets! The words are:
animosity, despotic, transparent,derision, boisterous, clandestine, contempt and appease.

For Social Studies, we continued comparing and contrasting the political views of Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Due tomorrow; the grid comparing these two men and the 6 quotations you received. Figure out if the quote came from Jefferson... or Hamilton and explain in your own words what each means.

Period 3:

In Social Studies, we analyzed 6 quotes to see if we could figure out if they were said by Hamilton or Jefferson and are in the process of completing the following assignement for tomorrow:
Answer question 1, 2 (only the Bank of the United States), 3, (you will be comparing H and J in real life situations – see how their philosophies impacted their ideas in each of the 6 topics listed) and 4.

We read Chapter 3 in Tom Sawyer and discussed authority and "showing off". Make sure you complete the Puppy Love handout by the beginning of class on Tuesday.
For Social Studies, we completed posters on Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, comparing and contrasting their political philosophies.

Period 3

Block I
We read Chapters 1 and 2 in Tom Sawyer; wrote down two famous quotes from Chapter 2 and discussed their meaning; found our own "Golden Line" from Chapter 1 and discussed that we will be finding a golden line from each chapter we read.

In Social Studies, we discussed the transition to a president after the Constitution was ratified, and completed questions in our Social Studies book about George Washington. The assignment is due Monday -

Read pages 300-303, answer the "Electoral College" question on page 301; the George Washington question on page 302; questions 1,2,3 and 4 on page 303. Answer all these questions by Monday --- many of you completed this in class on Friday, so just remember to bring your answers to class!

Period 3

We read Tom Sawyer (Chapter 3) out loud and discussed correlations between Tom's actions and modern day flirtations. We added a golden line from Chapter 3. In Social Studies, we learned about George Washington; completed a Who Was George, Really? activity and answered some questions from our Social Studies book.

Block I
We reviewed for our Social Studies test over Chapter 9. It will be tomorrow, after a short review session in class. Bring your questions with you and make sure to complete the entire Chapter 9 review. Remember, you may use the blue notecard to help during the test - no other notes or books allowed!

Period 3
We completed a worksheet on idiom, dialect and slang - and turned in our vocabulary sentences for our first TS vocab test.

Block 2
We reviewed for our Chapter 9 Social Studies test; corrected the worksheets on idiom, dialect and slang; listened to part of Chapter 1 (Tom Sawyer) on tape to understand the dialect and it's role in reading the novel.
