Block 1
We read a short story from our Lit books: "The Monkey' Paw". We discussed superstitions and foreshadowing and practiced reading fluency.
We copied the new vocabulary list from the white board -- if you were absent, make sure to copy the list tomorrow. We defined the first five words and will go over those in class tomorrow.
For Social Studies, we collected data about 9 reasons for Colonial Unrest. Tomorrow we will determine which of those reasons were the most important.

Block 2

For all classes - Final memoirs are due THURSDAY. Please bring snacks to share while we have our reading/sharing time in class that day. We will be creating our own "Coffee Shop" in the classroom - with hot chocolate instead of coffee, of course!
Also, there will be NO VOCAB TEST this Friday - we will be having counselor presentations during Language Arts.

We reviewed our SlaveShip activity from Monday and read about the "Middle Passage". We completed an analysis grid and wrote a reflection about our experience. For Language Arts, we got back our edited memoirs, worked on corrections for our final (due this Thursday) and completed our group topics for Light in the Forest.

We got back our edited memoirs, worked on corrections for our final (due this Thursday) and completed our group topics for Light in the Forest.

Block 3

We reviewed what we know about the 13 colonies, turned in our grids and maps and began working on the Chapter Review for Chapter 4 (page 116) "Identifying People" and "Understanding Main Ideas". We will review tomorrow; quiz on Chapter 4 on Thursday.
For LA - we worked in the Computer Lab on our Memoir rough drafts. We will peer edit in class on Thursday or Friday - decision will be made tomorrow!

POLITICAL CARTOONS DUE TOMORROW FOR ALL SOCIAL STUDIES CLASSES! YOU MAY SEE THE ASSIGNMENT UNDER THE 'FILES' TAB ON MY WEBSITE - YOU WILL NEED TO TURN IN YOUR BRAINSTORM SHEET (SECOND PAGE OF THE ASSIGNMENT HANDOUT) AND YOUR POLITICAL CARTOON TOMORROW.

Block I
We performed our dialogue, shapshot and thoughtshot skits! Great job! We brainstormed ideas for our memoirs and discussed what memoir is after viewing a ppt. Finally, we reviewed four of our vocab words for this week; withered, retorted, varmit, sassed and plumb. We will define the remaining three tomorrow.

For Social Studies, we took notes on the Lives of the Colonists, using cards in class. We received our next assignment - creating a Colonial Newsheet, which will be due on Friday, October 7.
Remember your polical cartoon is due tomorrow!

Block 2

We performed our dialogue skits, watching for snapshots, thoughtshots and mood in each presentation. Great job, kids! After watching a ppt presentation, we discussed the definitions of our new words; withered, retorted, varmit, sassed and plumb. We will define the remaining three words tomorrow.

New vocab words today from our new novel, The Light in the Forest -- vocab test will be on Friday of this week. We will define the words tomorrow in class. We worked on group scripts for our scenes using dialogue; be ready to present them in class tomorrow. For Social Studies, we took notes on Colonial Life - we will complete the notes tomorrow and begin an assignment using those notes.

Block 2
We wrote our dialogue scripts today - presentations are tomorrow. There will be five minutes in class to prepare for your dialogue skits. Be ready! We also received our new vocabulary words from our new novel, The Light in the Forest
