Assembly first period on internet safety; second period we worked on our CBAs.

Period 3 -
Persuasive essays in the lab; focus today on intext citations....

Period 5 - 6
Persuasive Essays in the lab - focus on Works Cited pages...
Reviewed for SS test over Chapter 18 - Test scheduled for Monday, 5th period. 10 minutes of study time at beginning of class! No notes may be used on the test!

Period 1 - 2
We took notes on Chapter 18.4 and discussed differences between the North and South.
During second period, we continued to work on our CBA in the computer lab.

Period 3
We read silently for 10 minutes in our independent reading books; discussed the rubric for our persuasive essay and went over in-text citations (use "Citation Machine"!); worked on our essays in the computer lab.

Period 5 - 6
We worked in small groups to understand the North and South viewpoints - what did they REALLY think/believe!
We read silently in our independent reading books; we went over the scoring rubrics for the CBA and worked on our essays in the computer lab.

Period 1 - 2
We read about John Brown and talked about martyrs; we also analyzed the election that brought Abraham Lincoln to office.
For second period, we spent time in the computer lab working on our outlines/essays.

Period 3 -
We worked in the lab on our outlines;

Period 5 - 6
We read about the election that saw Lincoln voted into office and discussed how that happened. We also read about secession and why the South decided to leave the Union. Chapter 18.4)
For Language Arts, we continued work in the lab on our CBAs.

Period 1 - 2
We took notes on Chapter 18.3 in Social Studies and worked on answering questions 2 and 3 on page 568. We worked in the lab on our CBA during most of second period.
Period 3
We worked in the lab on our Persuasive Essay during 3rd period - the outlines are due by the end of the period on Wednesday (Thursday for the Choir kids..)
Period 5 - 6
We read and talked about John Brown and States Rights issues - we spent most of 6th period in the lab working on our CBAs. We also received calendars listing major due dates/tests for the remainder of the school year.

We read Chapter 18.2 in Social Studies and answered questions 1 and 2 on page 561 in our SS books.
We went to the library and continued working on our CBAs...first drafts are due next Friday - final drafts on May 14!

Period 3 -
We worked on our persuasive essays in the lab - outlines are due by Wednesday at the latest!

Period 5 - 6
We read Chapter 18.2 in class and worked in small groups to answer questions about the Civil War. For 6th period, we worked in the computer lab on our persuasive presentations.

Period 1 - 2
We finished watching Night John, practiced for the MSP test and began working on Chapter 15 in Social Studies.Answer the questions under "Understanding Main Ideas" on page 480 - question numbers 1-6. These are due tomorrow!

Period 3 -
We practiced taking the MSP and compared answers with the state key. We also finished watching Night John.

Period 5 - 6
We finished Night John, took a practice MSP test and went over the answers. We began our reformers posters - those are due on Wednesday. For those absent today, pick any reformer from Chapter 15 and follow the directions below:

We took a quiz on Chapter 14 using our notes from our Social Studies books; we read Chapter 1 in Night John and wrote reflections/discussed about our reading.
Period 3 -
We read and reflected on Chapter 1 in To be a Slave. We talked about the upcoming persuasive essay and discussed topic selection.

Period 5 - We used our notes from Chapter 14 to write a letter from a slave; we read Chapter 2 in TBS and wrote a reflection; we also watched the rest of Night John.

We analyzed two different points of view on Zoos, and contrasted the strengths/weaknesses of both; we completed the questions on pages 970 - 976 in our lit books and took notes on Social Studies Chapter 14.

Period 1 - 2
We worked on Unit 9 (page 963) in our lit books and discussed Tri 3 Independent Reading; we also worked hard on Westward Expansion. We scheduled a work day in class tomorrow to put all the pieces together, so bring everything with you to class tomorrow!

Period 3 -
We had a library visit and passed out reading logs (pages or minutes this tri!). We worked on Unit 9 (page 963) in our lit books - questions 1-4 are due tomorrow at the beginning of class/

Period 5 - 6
Independent Reading (every Tuesday and Thursday); we read and answered the questions on page 963 in our Lit Books; we read page 964 and began to discuss "the power of persuasion." Please complete your note taking sheet (Reader's Workshop Part 2). We began our unit on the Industrial Revolution by experiencing mass production vs artisan creation. Please read pages 398-403 in your SS book and answer questions 1-4 for tomorrow.

Period 1 - 2
We discussed our new in class book - To be a Slave and began Unit 9 in our lit books (Argument and Persuasion). We also spent one period in the computer lab working on our Westward Expansion project. It is due at the beginning of class on Wednesday. You will have one more work period tomorrow for that project.

Period 3 -
We began our unit on Argument and Persuasion in our lit books! Remember to bring those books to class daily for the next few weeks. Tomorrow - make sure you have your independent reading book in class.

Period 5 - 6
We began Unit 9 (Argument and Persuasion) in our lit books and began to work on elements of argument. Pick up the worksheet if you were gone today. We also began our new in class book - To be a Slave and discussed the author and why he wrote the book. Finally, we reveiwed Westward Expansion and began looking at the steps leading up to the Civil War.
