Period 1 and 2
Vocab Lists from "The Great Rat Hunt" were reviewed: quiz is scheduled for Thursday.
Today, we began our Memoir Unit, in which we will create our first major writing assignment for this school year. We are practicing writing techniques to prepare for this project; today, we practiced writing small by writing descriptions of two people we know well. The important part of this assignment is to write about not JUST APPEARANCE, but PERSONALITY! Write in a way that the character/personality of your subject shines through. You are writing about two different people (Real or Imaginary) - these two descriptions are due at the beginning of first period tomorrow. Here is the assignment in case you need clarification:

Write about two people- they can be fictional or real. Choose important details that shed light on more than just what they look like, or their age. Help us understand personality traits with what you write. Write about 5-6 sentences for each of the two people you chose and bring these to class tomorrow.

In Social Studies, we made lists of why people move, and divided them into PUSH and PULL factors. We looked at Chapter 3 in Social Studies (Sections 1 and 2) and skimmed to find reason that people began coming to the new world.

Period 3 -Vocab word lists (vocab from "The Great Rat Hunt") were looked over; quiz will be Thursday. We will correct the first assignment on those words in class tomorrow.
Our Memoir Writing Unit was introduced; we talked about writing small and practiced writing descriptions of two people (real or imaginary) that we know well - the important part was revealing more than appearance; we also tried to reveal personality or character. Most of us finished in class today, but some need to complete this as homework tonight.

Period 5 and 6 -Language Arts: We finished reading
The Great Rat Hunt" and looked at the writer's use of effective memoir techniques.
Vocab words from "The Great Rat Hunt" were handed out - quiz will be Thursday. We will go over the worksheet tomorrow in class.

The Memoir Unit was introduced. Homework for tomorrow: create a "snapshot" (using words, not pictures!) of a person you know well - due tomorrow in class! Remember to include personality characteristics in your description.

Social Sudies: Whirlwind ppt of Chapter 3.1 - 3.3 (The Rise and Fall of Spain!) Notes were taken; homework for tomorrow; outline Chapter 3.4 Due at the beginning of class!
