Block I
We began our independent choice reading in Language Arts - make sure to have your reading logs filled out with author information and a parent signature prior to beginning your books! We discussed elements of plot and wrote our own short stories; if you missed class today, the prompt was "Sam and Jordan, two 14 year old boys, decided to go bowling on." We then introduced a conflict, a climax and a resolution to that conflict. We shared stories with each other when finished.

Block 2
We finished our timeline presentations; visited the library and discussed the elements of plot in stories from Dr. Seuss to our current novels. We discussed the question: Do all stories contain conflict?

Block 3
We completed our time line sharing, reviewed what will be on the Social Studies test tomorrow (the states and landforms on your study guide), and began learing how to take Cornell notes. We talked about stages of plot and will write a paragraph for tomorrow. Here is the plan. Mrs. H gave us an exposition (background story) for our paragraph. Jason and Sam were at home with nothing to do. Sam's older brother was teasing them and his parent's were watching a PBS documentary on TV. Suddenly, Sam decided that he wanted to go BOWLING!

What you do: Pick up the story where I ended it - you don't have to repeat what I said. Decide on a conflict and introduce obstacles that make the conflic more complicated. Next, write a climax, the turning opint in the story and moment of greatest suspense. Finally, explain the falling action, where you reveal the outcome of the story's climax. This should show how the characters resolve the conflict.

Do not write more than a page - double space if you decide to type! This should not be a long story!
